Notch has started a 48 hour game development session for the Ludum Dare site which he is streaming here.
He is doing this challenge for the Ludum Dare game competition. Notch is working in the Comp section of the game in order to defeat all the other scary and intimidating game developers. That and to prove that he actually does do some work on actual games.
Of course he isn’t the only one, as an absolutely massive number of developers have tried their hand at this. You can see quite a few of them on this page. The current theme of the competition is escape. Notch appears to be making a basic dungeon exploration game. You will face exciting and intimidating opponents such as rocks and bats.

In an amusing series of events, he started his stream over at www.livestream.com. Unfortunately he had to quit when he had too many viewers and was being charged a huge amount of money. Overall the bill for his short stream came to around $4,000. He eventually moved over to Justin.tv to get rid of the bills. To clarify something, he is not playing Minecraft as many rumors stated.
Ludum Dare is worth noting in that they will be doing this competition all the time. It’s quite an interesting watch for a day if you go around to all the various people making games. There are a huge variety of genres and games being represented in this competition. That and you might see something that you would enjoy playing when it is done.
This site is definitely something good for the community, as it is pushing developers to their limit. It is quite an amazing concept and we are seeing many sites which promote Indie devs. We hope to have an interview with some of the producers of this site in the future.
