Yuru Yuri is an anime about middle school girls that are in a club called the amusement club. Those girls aren’t the only ones though. The student council also plays a large part in the series.
The characters in Yuru Yuri go to an all girls school. This appears to lead to many yuri moments in the series. There are multiple love triangles between the main characters. If you do not like Yuri this show is not for you, but that should not be surprising since the show is called Yuru Yuri.
The show is very hit or miss. There was no continuing story because this was a comedy slice of life show. Each show contained several segments that centered on a different story. The segments that are mostly about the amusement club are usually good, but the ones that have a lot of the student council are not as good.
I guess that is because the student council episodes always revolve around a few themes like nosebleeds, competition within the ranks, and the unrequited love of the VP for one of the amusement club members. The episodes with the amusement club seem to be a bit more varied and let the characters show different sides of themselves. Towards the end they add more characters to the student council that shake things up some. It would have been better if they were added earlier I believe.
The comedy for the series gets a bit repetitive. Even if it was funny when the series started, seeing it five times an episode really kills the joke. Sometimes they even took a joke and changed it slightly like drooling for nosebleeds, so they could do it twice as much. The series would have been better if they cut some of that out and got original material. They even used a joke directly out of Azumanga Daioh.
Overall the show was decent. I enjoyed the characters from the amusement club and the interaction between them. If the show had centered on only them and a select few of the student council, I would think a lot better of it. The show did not add anything new to the genre, but it is a decent addition.
