It seems that all the old developers who made some great games are making new ones. Yasumi Matsuno of Vagrant Story is heading up a new design team. If you aren’t interested after that then we don’t know what to say to you.
The Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians Team
Much of the team has 15 or more years of experience in gaming. We are going to tell you some of the games they have worked on and let you draw your own conclusions about the team at Playdek:
- FF Tactics
- Dungeon Twister
- Various THQ games their press does not go into, probably for legal reasons
Stretch goals include getting Hitoshi Sakimoto to do music for the game, who did some tracks on FF Tactics and XII. Come to your own conclusions on how all of this is going to work out.
Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians Gameplay System
The game is going to be a turn-based war simulation. You switch from viewpoint to viewpoint in each battle. You will often be on opposite sides between battles. It looks like they are going to do a story where things aren’t as simple as good and bad. That shows promise in and of itself.
Other than that you will have a job system that your characters go through. These include:
- War Mage
- Ballast Knight
- Polearm Knight
- Aerolest
These all fall into the traditional archetypes with magic, bows and such. You will need different classes as the missions change. We hope that the way you level these is interesting, as we saw in some previous games.
The Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians Kickstarter
Right now you have digital copies, USB Drives and…. copies of the upcoming card game? Apparently they have a card game to go along with it to round out their funds. The interesting thing about this one is it is very light on your design input. You have to put some serious money in to get to design anything with this one. Which is fair we suppose. We think this is worth some of your time so take a look.
