Supercharged Robot VULKAISER is out on Steam right now. If you’re a fan of super robots then this is the game for you.
Authentically 70s Super Robot
While there are more tropes in the game than just ones from the 70s it’s clear that the main inspiration comes from there. Levels are episodes such as “The Darkness in the Sky” and other authentic titles. For many gamers, like us, this style choice is extremely charming.
A Lighter Take on Shmups
Have you noticed that every shmup seems to be about a titanic war or galaxy-destroying threat? Well it’s still sort of about that here but the setting is much less dark.
Bosses with drills on their heads and light banter after each mission are the order of the day in this game. It’s a nice break to the darker story lines we’ve seen so often in modern gaming.

The enemies are a bit silly as well; here you can see the modular weapon system used to defeat Pac-Man.
Supercharged Robot VULKAISER and Modular Power-ups
Perhaps the best part of the game comes in the form of power-ups. You can choose from several different ships which dock with you. Each one massively changes your capabilities. And you get a short cinematic much like in a 70s super robot show.
Traditional Shoot Em’ Up Gameplay
As for the gameplay it follows the normal formula of having one ship with several power-ups. You have a normal shot, an extended shot you can use after a short charge time and a bomb shot that of course begins annihilating everything in sight.
4/5 Great: Classic gameplay with an interesting weapon system combined with a humorous setting makes Supercharged Robot VULKAISER a must-have for anyone who loves giant robots. The only problem with the game is that it doesn’t add any massive innovations to the formula. Despite this it’s easily worth the $4.99 USD admission price for the amusing story alone.
