After quite a bit of anticipation and some hiccups with getting it out on Steam Starbound is finally up. We’re going to take a look at it for you and see just what is going on.
The Starbound Beta Right Now
The game already has a different feel at the start from Terraria. Instead of the normal free roam and being dropped into the world you have a starting hub and quests. Quests give rewards and you have access to some crafting from the start. This perhaps makes it a bit more accessible than some crafting games. If things get too crazy you can also teleport back to your ship.
The Starbound Beta Art
From swaying trees to little nuances of enemies the art is on another level. It is a really beautiful game from thunderstorms to giant mushrooms.
The Starbound Beta Similarities
There are many things that remind us of earlier games. Gathering materials, combat and exploration are all fairly familiar. We’re a little confused by the fact that they streamlined things with a gathering tool, then added all the old varieties of tools as well. An odd choice.
Shortly after starting it up I had already made a rudimentary room with a fire and crafting table. I did it in a hurry but it proves the point that it’s much easier than in many games. We’re excited to see the more advanced aspects later on.
Getting the Starbound Beta
It is of course out on Steam Early Access right now. Many of us already got it on the Humble Store but it should be up for some time in one way or another. Is this going to be even bigger than Terraria? We are guessing so.
