We were very surprised to find a real gem in Space Pirates and Zombies, or SPAZ.
Most games on Steam events or in bundles are terrible indie games that are propped up by events. People buy them for the event, not the game. Space Pirates and Zombies is an indie game that shows a ton of work on a small budget.
If anyone played star control, this game is extremely similar. It has the same wide variety of interesting ships as well as some even quirkier humor than usual.
As far as the gameplay, you get to customize your ship with a huge selection of abilities. Then you go into battle with other massive ships with your fleet behind you. The game gives you small rewards of new tech as you find new systems and blow up nice fleets.
But of course we have to let you know about it’s shortcomings. While there are random events and story events, most stars systems follow a pattern. There are a few missions in each which grow repetitive after time. There is even a faction system in place.
That being said, the story missions are quite excellent. As are the event missions, which really do let you fight zombies in space. It’s quite innovative how they set that up, but we won’t spoil it for you.
This is some of the most fun we’ve had for the least money we’ve seen. We would highly recommend that you check this game out on Steam. Be sure to check out their site as well.

4.2/5: While the game was rough around the edges at inception, the creators have put a ton of work into it. As it currently stands it has a lot to offer even to seasoned gamers.

Sequence, Greed Corp, Solar 2, Universe Sandbox, Swords and Soldiers HD, Terraria, SpaceChem, Rock of Ages, and plenty others were on sale for 2.50 or less with events going for them and are excellent games.
Not to mention bigger titles from the event like Bastion or Killing Floor.
But SPAZ is indeed amazing for the price I paid for it. I mean for 2.50 you pretty much have to buy it, and unlike other platforms like say, Apple and it’s 1 dollar-5 dollar games, with super cheap Steam games, you actually get a good-amazing game ( at least 70-90% of the time anyway. I’ve gotten 1 or 2 games from this sale I’ve regretted).
Out of the featured games, those games you mentioned are all quite good. But there are still quite a few that I’d rather not mention that are quite terrible. Oh heck, let’s go ahead. Toki Tori is a terrible game that has never, since it’s inception, done anything another platformer hasn’t done better. All of it’s mechanics have been seen elsewhere in better forms. Tons of people have this game, and it has been in multiple events. And the only reason I bought it was the event. The only reason the majority of the people have it was because it was in events. And it is far from the only game like this.
