Paranautical Activity is attempting to combine the best aspects of Roguelike and FPS games. With a voxel style and hard hitting action there is an undeniable appeal to the game itself. If not fantastically fun the game at least has a very good formula to be successful commercially. However we are hoping that it will have both.
Paranautical Activity and Rewarding Gameplay
The main reason that Roguelike games are so fun to play is that they give you minor or sometimes major emotional highs. You get to experience a large amount of small rewards over time and then suddenly lose it all at once. This game promises to bring you that feeling along with fast-paced gameplay.
Voxel Monsters and Paranautical Activity
The art style is done in the voxels that have become so popular. While it is perhaps overused in the industry today it looks quite good on particle effects. Amusingly this game has quite a bit in common with Minecraft survival mode, only with the added threat of instant (or at least near-instant) death and some massive guns. Giant bosses are also something any game like this needs and it has them. Some of the monsters even look like a Cyberdemon or Baron of Hell from Doom.
The Paranautical Activity Kickstarter Itself
There are many rewards for buyers such as games, shout-outs and for 10K a candlelit dinner with the developers. We assume that one is a joke as I can only imagine any candlelit dinner between myself and the two developers would be full of awkward pauses. The bonuses go to new maps and content. If they get up enough funds they will also be adding co-op, something that would really improve the game all around. Oculus Rift support… hooray. They also have a Steam Greenlight page up if it looks good to you.
