Oh That Notch: Mars Effect Prank - Nerd Age

Notch has been talking about his new project which is a space game for a little while now. Just yesterday he was saying he was looking for ideas for the name of the game. Now he claims he is using the name Mars Effect.

Today he has tweeted a site for the new game Mars Effect. Funny thing is that page is copyrighted for April 1st 2012 and it is already April Fool’s Day over in Stockholm. So I wouldn’t take anything written there all that seriously.

Looking closer and what is on the site first thing is the name Mars Effect with a very familiar style to it. Better watch out Notch don’t want another lawsuit on your hands already. Notch takes the time to make fun of this choice by talking about they only looked for names that were in use already. They decided against “Steve Online” though and I have no idea why.

Looks a bit familiar to me.

Obviously the Mars Effect name was the only thing they wanted to take from that game though since the game is supposed to have an ending that makes sense.

Notch obviously spent some time on this one going into all the features they would have in the game like waist high walls, “Hard Science Fiction”,  “seamlessly landing on planets”,  the standard mining, and many more features. He even went into the generator and how it would work with the cloaking feature. Also the 16-bit computer that would be fully functioning and let you control the ship or just play games while waiting.

Even Mollstam has a bit on it talking about the history of Lorem Ipsum as the “test” of this totally legit site.
