Maoyuu Maou Yuusha is about a world where demons and humans have been fighting for a long time because it helps certain parts of society if they do so. From the beginning the Hero and Demon King come together and decide to stop the fighting while keeping the people prosperous. They get help from the rulers of the southern nations and some convents to spread the word of their work. Mostly the show was about what it takes to make a peaceful world with fighting and relationships on the side.
Artwork in Maoyuu Maou Yuusha is a mixed bag. My opinion about it has not changed from the beginning. The backgrounds look pretty good, but do not match with the characters. I would have liked it better if the characters were designed to go with the background.
The lack of fighting in Maoyuu Maou Yuusha gets pretty ridiculous considering this is a land at war for most of the show, but they will not show the action most of the time. They talk about all these battles and Hero knocking sense into the demons, but mostly only show the effects of those violent actions. The only good thing about the end was that they finally showed some whole fights and did not shy away from it like usual. If there was a bit more action it would have made this series more exciting. The world building is fine, but it is nice to spice things up more often.
The major love triangle in Maoyuu Maou Yuusha was so stagnant. From the beginning to the end of the show Female Knight and Demon King both want Hero. Hero never gets further with either of them than sharing a bed all together fully clothed or awkward hand holding. Considering the emphasis of the show was not a harem it would have been better to stick with one girl or show one girl getting further with the hero than the other.
The ending of Maoyuu Maou Yuusha was a total disappointment. Even in the very last episode they were opening new lines of the plot. The whole scene with the church and the central nations was frustrating because the viewer does not need new information about the enemy in the last episode. Knowing that they have an agreement with the demons, guns, and other plans are all things they should have revealed earlier on. I know there may be another season, but they could have just driven back the central nations. If they left it at that then it would not be as annoying, but still open to another series.
Overall this show left too many loose strings at the end. If there is another season eventually I might change my opinion some, but for now I can not believe they left things this way. The ending ruined what enjoyment I had watching this series.
Score: 2/5
That is the extent of the action Hero gets in this show.
