In K episode 6 we get to learn some of the history of Homra and it is confirmed that people no longer remember Shiro.
After watching six episodes of K I still had plenty of questions, so I went to the manga prequel, K Memory of Red. I have to say what I read of it was much worse than K. There were not many answers to my questions either, but they at least show how people are chosen to join Homra. Also there is some insight into the inner workings of the group. I would not suggest reading the manga for what little insight into the show there is.
This episode of K they spend a lot of time showing the past of Homra focusing on Totsuka. This section distracts from the main story and does not add much of value. The viewers should have already known that Totsuka was a big part of the group from how they were desperate to avenge him, so it did not tell us much that was important to the story. All the flashbacks just come across as a cheap bid to have the viewers become emotionally attached to someone who died before the first episode of the show. I guess they realized that the viewers were not as into the story as they would be if they had an attachment to Totsuka and wanted to know what was behind his death. Flashbacks are not going to evoke that kind feeling to the character. Especially not when the viewer already knows that character is dead meat and that they shouldn’t get attached.
Shiro’s disappearance from the memories of people around him was hinted at last episode and now it has been shown to be a fact. The memories that Shiro has are all not all true as well. The reason behind this is still unclear, but from the way Neko behaved she at least knows something about it. The episode should have been more focused on Shiro’s issues than the flashbacks. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out.
