K episode 2 starts with Shiro getting away from the Black Dog using a sob story. Shiro now has a 10 million yen bounty put on his head by HOMRA. After Shiro gets back to his room he finds out that Neko can change and hates getting dressed. Then the Black Dog finds Shiro with the help of one of Shiro’s classmates. The Black Dog chases Shiro and Neko uses her powers to warp space to save them. When they are all tired Black Dog makes them breakfast.
This episode mainly highlights the abilities of Neko. Shiro finds out for the first time in this episode that Neko can transform, warp space, and create illusions. There is no explanation given for why she has these abilities, but they have not been explaining what is going on any other time either. Hopefully in time they will explain more about what is going on in the story. Like why the Black Dog will stop trying to kill Shiro just because Neko is nude.
The best part of this episode of K is the robots. The robots are all about respect which is strange for cleaning robots. They are usually made for convenience and are programmed to be subservient. These robots will call people on it if they are not showing respect. There is even a scene where the robots are fighting over showing respect. It is funny that they ask for respect, but will not show it.
The art is still having the same problems that I presented in my first impressions, but there has been something added that REALLY bothers me. The whole time Shiro is in his room the wallpaper is moving. It doesn’t look like there’s a projector putting pictures on the wall because the ceiling and other items in the room do not have the same effect. I know aesthetic wallpaper and projectors are a big trend nowadays but combining the two is pushing it a bit. If this is supposed to be the future of wallpaper then it is a freaky future to me. Walls should stay the same all the time. Rant over.
After watching the first episode of K I thought this was going to be an action show that took itself too seriously. Now after the second episode the show is leaning more towards comedy. The way Shiro planned his getaway and the standard comedic running away from the bad guy sequence at the end were pretty funny. I think the comedy is a better fit for this show. If it stays like this the show could turn out better than I initially thought.
