Episode 30 deals with probably the first good fight of the Stardust Crusaders arc. The anime incarnation of this was pretty great as well.
The Rundown for Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 30
In this episode the team faces Tower of Gray. It also marks a change in how Araki handles his fights that I think was for the best. He starts letting sub characters play a bigger part.
Due to the massive speed of Tower of Gray, a beetle-like flying stand, even Jotaro cannot keep up with it. However Kakyoin goes in to even things up.
Kakyoin uses his stand to make Tower of Gray dodge more than it would like to. He then lures it into a trap with his vines and destroys the main body.
Unfortunately for the group the Stand User manages to take out the pilots and send the plane down. Joseph being awesome manages to get them out of it. This is the first of many close calls they are going to have in part 3. Jotaro is hurt but it seems stand users have above-average healing and durability, as we will see for the rest of the series.
The final development is the introduction of Polnareff, the favorite character of many fans. Probably still my favorite character from this part as well. He threatens them and Avdol accepts his duel to the death.
Thoughts on Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 30
It was a great introductory chapter in the manga and perhaps even better in the anime. Araki starts growing as a writer in this section. He lets other characters take center stage while exploring new personalities. He also goes back to his horror roots with some of the enemy stands being absolutely horrifying.
That being said the animators are certainly not wasting the source material. You can tell they’re putting in a ton of effort still and not phoning it in. We want to congratulate them for it. On the other hand we sure wish they hadn’t picked “Walk Like an Egyptian” at the end. Ugh.
