Things are still setting up in Stardust Crusaders with a ton of back story. That being said the art has been quite good like usual. It’s good to see the series still doing well.
The Rundown for Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 29
Three important things happen in this episode. First Kakyoin is saved from the flesh bud by Jotaro. It attempts to take over his body but fails and is destroyed.
A second part of the episode deals with the back story of how Dio controls his people. It appears he has become even more charismatic than in season one and either controls people with his flesh buds or influences them as if he were a cult leader.
We also learn Jotaro’s mother has a stand as well but it’s killing her. It comes out in the form of some flowers but even in the manga they never say what it does other than kill her.
This episode goes a bit slow as they are just building up to the more exciting part of the arc. The final important thing is that they research where they are going and find out Dio is somewhere in Egypt by using Jotaro and Joseph’s stands.
With this development Kakyoin also joins them. He feels an obligation to try to help after Holly falls ill. So the group set off on a plane for the next part of their journey.
Thoughts on Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 29
The art and pacing of the anime have been good so far. We especially liked the stand presentation even though CG is normally horrible. It seems to work in this case though.
We do have to mention that in this episode Araki starts his unfortunate development of plot holes in stands. Dio literally has Hermit purple briefly then it is a totally different stand later. He’ll continue this trend of switching powers around and never bringing them up again with Gio Gio in arc 5.
It seems like Araki wanted to have Dio with some powers based on using the powers of others. Some people explain it’s the bloodline doing it but nowhere else in the series do any of the Joestars use the power of another person in the family. So that can’t be it.
It gets so out of hand in part 5 that his stand just has whatever power Araki wants it to at the time. While we love the series this is a rather glaring plot hole that still hasn’t been solved in his current run with “Jojolion” where some of the sub characters have confusing powers.
