In this episode of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Battle Tendency arc Joseph stares down Cars. We begin the short road to the titanic finish of this series.
The Rundown of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Episode 24
Joseph holds Lisa Lisa up in a precarious position. Cars advances slowly on him with a sly smirk.
Joseph however, has yet another trick to play. While using his scarf as a distraction he ropes Cars. Then he nails cars with his Hamon Overdrive which knocks him onto spikes. All seems to be lost for Cars as Stroheim powers up his ultraviolet cannon after defeating many vampires.
Part of the episode is spent explaining back story. George Joestar the second and Lisa Lisa, or Elizabeth, are Joseph’s parents. George was killed by a vampire posing as his commanding officer. Lisa Lisa killed that vampire in retribution. She then had to go on the run and leave Joseph to his grandmother.
However Cars has another trick himself. Somehow he grabbed the Red Stone and the mask and hid them. Stroheim hits him with the ultraviolet beam and superpowers him. Now things are looking rough for the heroes instead.
Wham > Cars
While this always stuck with me in the manga, it is even more apparent here. The battle with Cars was hectic, confusing and featured things coming out of nowhere. Let us list a few that came out of nowhere:
- Cars managing to grab the Red Stone and the Mask, and conceal them from everyone. Sure he can hide them in his body and has servants who probably found a mask. However we got no hint of any of this until it happened out of nowhere.
- Cars making a 180 for no determinable reason
- Stroheim being too late and thinking too slow to stop the beam
These are major reasons why the Wham fight is remembered more fondly than the one with Cars. I think Araki was too worried about people sympathizing with the villains. He very well should have been since some of them were so likeable. So his answer was to make Cars into a mustache-twirling stereotype. All he was missing what a mustache. Conversely the fight with Wham was logical and well thought out. As well as being action packed. So in my heart at least it will always be the better fight of the two.
The Incredibly Bizarre Finale
Things get downright confusing next episode, if they continue with the manga. So get ready to find out where the ending to Resident Evil 5 came from and watch some fish in the sky. This might actually be an appropriate time for the weird colors.
