Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita started off strong with a crazy arc about food coming to life and trying to take over. Unfortunately after that the series has declined. After every arc of the story I kept going back to the first one and comparing. Most did not look as good in comparison. Especially starting at episode 7 when they kept showing the same events over and over. Then immediately after that there were two similar episodes about faeries creating a civilization and destroying it very quickly. It felt like they had run out of original ideas. The last arc did not even have much to do with the faeries at all. This helped to get to know what humans are like now, but humans of that time period would need more exploration than two episodes.
One of my biggest problems with Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita is that they showed the series out of chronological order for no apparent reason. In the books it was not written out of order, so this was just a problem with the anime. The episode that should have come first number 10 would have made a wonderful introduction to the series. We would have learned about the setting and the powers of the fairies at the same time the main character did. Instead they threw the viewer into an already established setting for the shock value. After that it has been a game of trying to figure out how all the pieces come together and which thing came first.
One of the problems with the show being all out of order is that the last episode has no feeling of this being the end. The episode that is supposed to be the last one is showing things that happened at the beginning of the story. There is no closure to the story or feeling of anything being accomplished. The fairies could be getting humans entangled in their shenanigans for all time. There was a sense of futility to it all that it did not really matter what any of them are doing. We do not even get to see all the characters that we have gotten to know in the final episode. It feels like there should be another episode next week to wrap things up somehow.
Overall I liked this series, but there were enough problems to keep it from being one of my favorites.
