A recent successfully funded game caught my attention due to the concept and the low goals. Insignificant is a game that attempts to combine the free-roaming of GTA with RPG mechanics. Many other games have tried this, not the least of which being GTA: SA. However these games always prove at least intriguing if not great. It is worth looking at just for that.
An Insignificant World
The world is being programmed on the Unity engine for those familiar with it. Those who know already know the positives and drawbacks of the engine as well. The world itself is shown from the perspective of a character who is absolutely tiny. You can go through giant tubes and up huge trees. Weapons consist of things like pens, tacks and dice.
An Insignificant System
The game itself is going to have the things you would expect from a modern RPG. These include:
- Twenty two classes known as “Mancies” which you can customize your character with
- A crafting system along with a tech tree
- A deciphering system for translating texts you find
Depending on how far the Kickstarter goes there will also be NPC characters and extensive character customization.
An Insignificant Staff
The only reservation I have about the game is that the staff consists of one guy. While that’s an interesting gimmick we’ve seen an awful lot of games hit a massive roadblock due to a tiny staff. It will however be interesting to see if Insignificant lands in the small minority of games that can overcome this.
Supporting this Insignificant Game
Have a look at the Kickstarter and decide for yourself. Despite the myriad jokes that the name of this game invokes it does look like it could turn out well. The same could be said of the name of our site. It has already reached the first Kickstarter goal with over two weeks left. Now they just need to complete some of their stretch goals.

Hey, I’m Dan, the creator of Insignificant. Thanks so much for writing about us! It’s definitely tough being the only developer on the project. I have a composer lined up already so I’m not completely alone, but things can be tough when your budget is tight! Thanks again for the article, it’s rare that Insignificant gets an entire page to itself!
