Indie Royale is up now for you, so check it out. This time around they have some wildly different games, from a Zelda-style action game to a game of vicious combat set in a confusing world.
Zeno Clash
You are a bewildered traveler running from a strange group of people. These people are your former family, and you did something inexcusable to your mother. While the story is obtuse and confusing all the way to the end, the combat is quite fun. Zeno Clash really shows what you can do with an FPS engine. It is worth checking out simply due to being innovative.
Hoard
Storm castles and raze towns as a mighty dragon against the world. But most importantly you can fight your friends in multiplayer battles that require both cunning and brutality. Even better you can get the Hoard Flame-Broiled SANDwich and Dynamite Roll DLC for free. This is one of the best features of Indie Royale.
Lume
This entry by State of Play stands out for art style. Lume lives in a visually amazing world where something strange is going on. The lights have gone out and you have to puzzle your way back to normalcy. Even if you don’t enjoy puzzle games, Lume is worth checking out simply for how beautiful the game is.
Soulcaster 1 and 2
A top-down action game in the style of early Zelda or Gauntlet. This is a very nice addition because it adds some much needed playtime. Each game has quite an area to explore, as well as items to acquire. And it will give some very welcome nostalgia to older players. This art style is most similar to what old games actually had. Not the two-tone colors some developers label “retro”.
Indie Royale at the moment
At the time of this writing you can get these games for $4.36 USD. All of them but Soulcaster have Steam keys, Soulcaster only has Desura. Also keep in mind that not all of the games have a Macintosh or Linux version this time. It is still a pretty good buy if you have the proper platform.
