The Story of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!
The story of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! follows Yuuta Togashi. He is a boy who had a very over-developed sense of fantasy in middle school. He thought he was the “Dark Flame” and had magic powers. He goes to a brand new school to get away from it. However, he ends up meeting a variety of girls he can’t handle. Perhaps the most important of these is Rikka Takanashi. She acts like a child, and still believes she has magic powers even though she is too old for that. The secret is, she does it because she likes it. She likes Yuuta all the more for his former crazy ways. This causes him no end of frustration, which is where most of the humor comes from.
The Art of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!
The art in this show is decent, but not phenomenal. Much like most of the show, it is rather average. The shadows and shading are good, but are sparsely used well. Overall you will not be amazed by this show, but you won’t be disappointed either. The opening however, is quite frenzied and frustrating to watch. Very poorly done. However this is balanced out by some nice effects when Rikka is pretending to have magic powers.
This video below is fairly popular. Perhaps more people have seen it than the show itself. As always, parental discretion is advised.
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Lives and dies by characters
Much like any show of this type, the characters are what matters. Tenchi Muyo would have just been another bland show if not for the fact that most people had a favorite character. Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! may not have an original concept or a breakout style, but the characters are endearing. For me, Yuuta Togashi is immediately endearing. He is a kid who has grown up some. One that wants people to stop acting so stupid and see their own flaws.

For others, Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! is embodied in Rikka Takanashi. She is the geeky, awkward comic foil to Yuuta. However since this is going to be a harem, she is far from the only comic foil. She also believes herself to have magic powers and a cursed eye. It is of course, all just playing around.
She even dresses up her cat.
Final Verdict 3/5 Average: This show does nothing to push the limits of anime, either in story or art. Nor is it a timeless classic adaptation. The fact that the characters are likeable does help this show. Overall, this is not a bad show to pick up if you do not like the current season. I will probably be watching it some more myself.
Well, I don’t think the animation being lacking. As you mentioned the imaginary fight scenes in Takanashi’s daydreams (Go Sukashi style) are very well done, but don’t discount the character models.
Go back and watch the scene in episode 1 where Yuuta first get’s to his new school. All the characters there from the main protagonists to the background character’s had really interesting models. And by that I mean, individual faces, hairstyles, body types etcetera. Not many anime have been known to pull that off.
It is no btooom though. You put the two side by side and you see the difference between something well animated and a masterpiece of art.
