Eryi’s Action Review

Today we want to review yet another Doujin game. Eryi’s Action is a platformer in the style of “the Unfair Platformer” and “I Wanna Be The Guy.” While this genre is nothing new, the presentation of this game is quite fun. So let us begin our review of Eryi’s Action.

The Art of Eryi’s Action

The art of Eryi’s Action is quite good. It has a bright, colorful style. This makes it a nice parallel to the difficulty of the game. The animation is good, but not AAA title level. You can only expect so much from the animation of a Doujin platformer.

The Gameplay of Eryi’s Action

Eryi’s Action combines elements of hard platformers with the interaction of the second Mario game. The American version, that is. Others may find the gameplay similar to Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic. It is somewhere between that and an unfair platformer.

Eryi's Action Flag Puzzles

The elements of gameplay are also quite good in Eryi’s Action. For example, you do not win by reaching the flag. You often have to solve a puzzle before walking through. Not solving it means you die. In the above picture you have to use the sprinkler and bomb to eliminate a spiked ball. This section was quite fun.

Eryi's Action World Map

The map also attacks you at times. When you head to the second stage, you have to dodge or die on the world map. This is a common mechanic in many indie platformers now. It is nice to see it here as well though, and adds to the game.

Eryi's Action Unfair Spikes

The Negatives of Eryi’s Action

The problems with this game are two-fold. Those experienced with games like “The Unfair Platformer” and “I Wanna Be The Guy” may not find it hard enough. It also does not do anything a game of this type has not done before.

The Final Verdict on Eryi’s Action

3/5 Average: The game itself is well-done and properly executed. However it does nothing that other, free games do not do. However it is very much worth the price. It retails for around $4.99 USD. If you are interested you should check it out on their site. They are also trying to get the game on Steam Greenlight, so that is worth checking out as well.
