Ending this weekend with something a lot easier to watch than yesterday, Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu. This show has a lot of perverted jokes and fanservice, so it is not for children.
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu is not going to give you much if you are looking for flashes of flesh, but a good portion of the jokes are perverted.
This show is about a school that separates the students based on the scores of their first placement test. The highest scorers get the best facilities and the lowest scorers get barely anything. This system allows battling with summons that represent the student’s test score to try to get better facilities. Akihisa, who is the main character, wants to help Himeji have the school experience he believes she deserves. This drives the lowest class to work to beat all the upper classrooms.
The first thing that caught my eye about this series was the unique artstyle. In the regular backgrounds their are polkadots with the dots usually being in pastel. This looks really nice. That isn’t all though. The style of the characters changes a lot from sketches to chibis and other ways entirely. It is really neat when a show puts so much effort into making things look different.
The story for the original series is pretty good. The whole time the students were working towards something and it was well put together. At the end they left it open for a sequel and they got one. It was not very good though. The sequel was an exaggeration of the regular show in all the worst ways. The girls were more violent and the jokes were rehashed more than ever. Also the show went between showing what happened after the original show and what happened before. Decide if you want a sequel or a prequel please.

The cast for this show is pretty big. That usually takes away from the show, but in this case I think they handle it well. They don’t try to have a special moment for every character that shows up for five minutes. In the second show they do try to go into special episodes for all the main cast which is one of the downfalls of that season.
Overall this is a good show. The art is beautiful. The first season has a good story and pacing. It has romance, action, and comedy so it is well rounded with type as well.
