Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko is show about a boy who moves into his aunt’s house to go to school in area. Little does he know that there is stuff going on there that has been hidden from the family.
Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko starts out with Makoto moving into his aunt’s house and right away he can tell she is hiding something. This would be because of the massive futon with legs coming out that his aunt refuses to acknowledge the existence of. After finding out that the futon contains his cousin, Makoto helps his cousin to stop thinking she is an alien and rejoin society. Along the way Makoto gathers a freak harem which includes his aunt and cousin. Towards the end they throw in a baseball game story.
The opening for Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko is so striking. The music, at first, was strange to me, but quickly I was addicted to it. The visuals that go along with it are very interesting and I wish some of that stuff had actually come up in the show. Instead the opening is more interesting than the show itself. If the opening had really been an indicator of the what the show was like I would have loved it.
The characters are each strange in their own ways. Makoto is the straight man with very little weird about him except that he accepts all the weird girls. Ryuko is always correcting people about her name and calls herself a fruitist. Maekawa is sickly and likes to cosplay all the time. Meme is a contradiction since she wants people to think she is young, but will emphasize her age at times. She also seems to have a thing for her nephew. Plus there is the cousin Erio who thinks she is an alien. With all these weird interesting characters they somehow managed to make a boring show.
Which one of these crazy lovelies would you like to hook up with?
This show came out last spring and I did not review it until now because the last episode had not come out yet. Because of circumstances in Japan at the time they had to put it off, but I don’t see why it needed to take until the next year to release it. The last episode was pretty important too since the main character starts to see things from an entirely different perspective by the end of it. If you end the series from 12 it looks like everything is normal and all the weird things that happened were just in people’s imaginations.
This show has a lot of things going on between aliens and the freak harem. It should be really weird, but exciting. Instead it can get pretty boring. The pacing for this show seems way too slow and they don’t do enough with their interesting characters. In the end I was pretty disappointed.
+ Interesting premise
+ Main character has a harem of interesting girls
– One of them is his aunt
+Ending is pretty good
– The ending was released many months after the rest of the show
– The last arc of the season seemed kind of tacked on
+ Awesome opening
