Darkstalkers Resurrection has recently been released. In this article we want to explore the history of the game and what this new package has to offer.
Darkstalkers and Fighting History
Darkstalkers was the first game to bring EX moves into fighting. An integral part of many fighters today, it came out during Vampire Savior. This way of handling special moves is still with us today.
The Importance of this Game
Darkstalkers was also important for a different game style than Capcom was used to. It was heavy on projectiles and zoning was far more important than with Street Fighter. However at the same time it had a different feel from the King of Fighters series. I found the series far more enjoyable than SF when I was young.
Darkstalkers and an Art Evolution
These games also had a grand and sweeping art style. This perhaps showed the world Capcom could do things like this. From the backgrounds to the characters, everything was exquisite. It was perhaps a shame they reused the sprites until they appeared hideous to people. But that is another issue.
The Point of this History Lesson
The point is that this series holds up to the test of time. It is still a decent set of games today. And for fighting game fanatics, it is a great way to see how your current fighters evolved.
The Game Itself
This new edition simply includes Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge and Darkstalkers 3. These games have several new features such as:
- GGPO online
- HD graphics
- Replays
- A spectator mode
- Achievements
- Tutorials
- Reward vaults with concept art and videos
Overall this seems like a decent collection. Hopefully this will sell well so that we can get a full new game sometime.
Where to get Darkstalkers Resurrection
Right now you can get it for around $14.99 USD on PSN. It will be fully released on Live and PSN on 3/13/2013. As usual you can find out more at Capcom Unity.
