Lately we have seen a swath of people creating a bunch of RPG games that were not so polished. So what happens when a creator wants to take a step up after some minor success? you get a game like Darkblood Chronicles. This is being featured because it’s an interesting lesson on where a basic game goes later on.
The Original Darkblood Chronicles
The game started as a basic fan JRPG along the lines of Persona. It still is that but had some very basic visuals like the ones you see in every RPG maker game ever. The style is getting a bit tiresome. However they decided to take things a step up on the art and launch a Kickstarter.

The game centers around Samantha, a high school student who is dragged into another universe. Much like the Persona series it has a horror feel but your character is far from helpless. You have quite a few skills to get you through the bizarre world.
Where Darkblood Chronicles is Going Now
They are attempting to get a significant $16,000 to add new animations, soundtracks and dungeon segments. They may go a step further and add some new, scarier characters like demons and other supernatural entities. Likely inspired by the stories found on websites like hell horror, watching these characters (if they are added) as a game element could be quite interesting. They also want to hire a professional writer to proof the game script as well. The combat will still be in the JRPG style but will be more polished and fluid.
In short they are attempting to polish everything about what we saw as an interesting but somewhat unpolished title. This is something that many developers could take a note from. We are getting a few too many unpolished games in the limelight lately. Are we talking about you? Only you would know that.
Why Darkblood Chronicles is an Important Gaming Indicator
If they manage to reach their goal it will both show that there is a demand for projects like this and inspire many, let’s say under-achieving indies, to improve their stock RPG maker games. Are people willing to pay for an update that is “largely cosmetic” as they put it? We want to know.
Supporting the Darkblood Chronicles Kickstarter
As you might expect they have a lot of design input on the game from boss monsters to NPC characters. So this might be an easy way to get yourself in a game with their Kickstarter. They of course have a Steam Greenlight as well.
