Croixleur Review

Croixleur is the type of game I go in wanting to hate. Moe girls who are expert fighters for reasons that baffle me. However I was surprised that I had a good amount of fun with this game.

The gameplay of Croixleur

Croixleur delivers an interesting system where you level up and gain new swords as time goes on. All of these swords have a minor but interesting story behind them. The combo and chaining system is quite fluid.

The story of Croixleur

The story focuses around “Sword Princesses” and the trials they must go through. You go through a variety of dungeons and fight various monsters. I must confess I was not as charmed by the characters as the game. However if you like things such as Strike Witches or Girls and Panzer this may work for you.

Croixleur level choices

Level choices add some variety to Croixleur.

The art of Croixleur

The art itself is simple but nice. The models, while not exactly high-polycount, are well-done. Overall the game looks as polished as you’d imagine a quality indie game would be. The special attacks are also quite spectacular as you would expect.

The Final Verdict on Croixleur 4/5: Very competently done for an indie game, Croixleur surprised me in a good way. They get some bonus points for this having been a small release, but it is surprisingly polished and fun. Only a few problems hurt the it.  One is the fact that it doesn’t do anything other games have not done. The other shortcoming is that the story will not appeal to everyone. However it was still quite fun for me.
