Both the creator of and the fans of Contested Space are engaging in something very extreme to get to the final funding they need. The fans have agreed to let everyone try out an open prototype to draw more people in. We want to talk a bit about what this very interesting gambit means.
Fans Agree to Let Go of a KS Exclusive Release to Support the Game
Perhaps the most amazing thing to learn about it is that if you have enough support fans will see things through to the end. It’s extremely rare that we see anything like this happen in crowdfunding. However in this case they not only agreed to it but were happy with it. You can’t buy support like that.
We’re sure there will be future versions with a thank you for backers but it’s quite impressive to see such support in this age.
Why Crowdfunders Should Take Note
Those of you who study the scene should take note because if this works then it could pave the way for an entirely new form of Kickstarter project. We’ve seen ones with devoted fans, but we have only seen a few with support like this. If the project succeeds, and we hope it does, it could be a viable model for other small games.
As for the game itself we gave an excellent rundown earlier on. We were sold at a persistent campaign universe to fight in but you should review it yourself and decide whether to support it.
Getting the Contested Space Early Version
Right now just visit their site and fill out a form. We think that if they can make their goal in the last few days we’ll have really given someone with a lot of passion a chance in gaming. It’s not every day someone both storyboards their Kickstarter and then lets everyone have a shot at the game.
