Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai is a show about a club made for the purpose of making friends.
Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai started out with Kodaka finding Yozora talking with her “air friend.” From there the club started and the group assembled. The group tries to do things that they think popular people do like karaoke, playing video games, and going to the pool are some examples. Each member of the group has a problem with their personality or appearance that is pretty obvious which is why they are supposed to not have any friends. The group of them together can be pretty wonderful.
At first Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai was greatl. There was ecchi, but not excessive or towards a certain fetish. The story was like I had read in the manga and seemed to have a point. While their kind of was a harem, the main character wasn’t trying to decide who to date, he only wanted to be friends with them. It was different and enjoyable, but somewhere during the series the writers for this anime lost their way. What they found instead was a love for swimsuits that isn’t normal and lots of bad plot points to put in.
The ecchi in this show is strange. In the beginning of the show, most of the ecchi was only in the opening. When they started adding more ecchi into the series I thought it would be tame and subtle, but no, not at all. My favorite was when Yozora randomly decides to dominate Meat on the beach when all Meat wanted was someone to help her put sunscreen on her back. That scene was way too long and painful. Also hope you have a thing for swimsuits if you watch this because their are a ton of swimsuits.
The story for the show starts out strong and then loses steam towards the end. It appears that the anime ran out of material they wanted to use from the manga. I wish they had decided to stay true as much as possible to the manga rather than only doing about half of it the right way. The parts that were from the manga were quite good and the stuff they made up was less so.
I would not recommend the whole Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai to anyone. The first part is worth watching and the end is just crap. I hope they leave this series alone now because they have messed it up enough.
