B Gata H Kei Review - An Ecchi Show About Virgins - Nerd-Age

B Gata H Kei is  a show about a girl named Yamada that plans to become a huge slut who has slept with 100 guys. It’s a romantic comedy, in which much of the comedy relies on the fact that Yamada is still a virgin and can’t even manage to have sex with even one guy. She plans to lose her virginity to an inexperienced boy rather than have an experienced guy laugh at her for being a virgin.

Pretty average looking characters.

To this end she finds Takashi, a photography Otaku, to seduce. Most of the jokes revolve around Yamada coming on to Takashi in the most awkward ways possible.Yamada is tsundere for Takashi half the time, and the other half she is doing things like lifting up her shirt to show him her breasts. Pick a path please, tsun-tsun or slutty.

The main characters for B Gata H Kei are not very likeable. The main girl is very full of herself and is sure she is the greatest thing on the planet, and quite a few of the other jokes contradict this. Also her love mentor is a little version of herself with a beard. I don’t know if that is just creepy or pushy because they are still trying to show how much she thinks of herself. Takashi the love interest is a bit less gay than your average guy in anime, but still manages to not have sex with a girl throwing herself at him. In real life he most likely would have had sex with her before the middle of the series or dropped her for being a cocktease.

Takashi is a photography nerd which seems pretty bland. They could have found some way to make Takeshi more interesting. I spent most of the show wondering why she even liked him. The side characters of the series are more likeable and interesting. If only they had focused on them more of the show. Takeshita and her boyfriend were a nice couple that showed more of what a regular couple should be like. The Kanejo siblings were interesting as well. I liked the sister’s intense interest in her brother.

So Kawaii.

The animation for the show was pretty nice. It was good looking but sometimes the character designs did not make sense to me. I didn’t think Yamada was the prettiest girl in the show for instance. Her rival Kanejo was way prettier. Takashi was plain which made sense since he was the virgin guy. I liked the little demon symbol that they used repeatedly to cover nudity. It also showed up for condom boxes and such. The sparkles for Kanejo’s brother were amusing especially when there were so many that they covered his face. Overall I think the sight gags and visuals were the best part of this show.

The premise for the show wasn’t good to begin with and then they made it not even make sense. The main characters were bland or annoying. The visuals were decent, but did not make up for the rest of the show. So in conclusion, if you have nothing better to do and like ecchi shows or tsundere girls this might be the show for you. If you have better taste and other things to do so I would not suggest this show.
