Sometimes we cover a game just because it looks fun. Adrift is this game. Somewhere between the games Asteroids, Star Control and Smash TV lies this game. You create a base and defend it from marauding space rocks and aliens.
The Adrift Gameplay
This multiplayer arena shooter is planning on letting 6 players defend a home base. The game also has upgrades which you unlock over time. We enjoy games like this pretty well and it’s a tried and true formula. The game also has random events like rare attackers and derelict spaceships. Combining these aspects seems like it will surely at least be fun.
The Adrift Graphics
If you’re looking for the cutting edge of graphics with bloom and lens flare it’s… not here. The game has simple graphics like you would see in S.P.A.Z. or Star Control. While this may not blow everyone away we enjoy it pretty well. They seem quite functional and understated. Kind of what you should expect from indie games.
The Adrift Team
The team itself consists of people from Risen Games. They are a small Boston studio of just a few people who are the definition of indie. With a small studio and budget they turned to crowd funding to create their games. So that is another reason why we are focusing on this particular Kickstarter project.
The Adrift Kickstarter
The Kickstarter itself of course has everything you would expect including:
- Beta invites, full copies and prototypes
- T-shirts and shout-outs
- Design input on various parts of the game from guns to bosses
So this is a fairly standard setup. If this sounds interesting to you then you can get the game and your name in the credits for $10-15. They are of course attempting to get on Steam Greenlight as well.
