Yaiba aka Ninja Gaiden Z is coming out in 2014. They are once again trying to restart the franchise, this time with similar gameplay but a more extreme style. It looks like the game has gotten the House of the Dead Overkill treatment. So we want to go over everything in case you might be interested.
The New Style of Yaiba
Excessive blood and cursing are big hallmarks of many remakes today. While it’s certainly pandering to the lowest common denominator it has worked for some games. Overall it looks like they’re really heading towards an edgy dynamic. We’re a bit skeptical that this is the best thing but they needed to do something different. The third person formula was getting as stagnant as the 2D version did eventually.
So what does this entail? Lots of dynamic kills where the action slows down when you finish an enemy off. Slinging opponents into each other to use them as weapons. Lots and lots of zombie killing so you do not have to feel bad about human life. Our only complaint is all this has been done before. Since PlayStation 1 in fact. We hope that they add something new to the formula.
A New Main Character
“YAIBA” is the new main character who is a cyborg ninja who was brought back from beyond the grave. With his mechanical parts he appears to have abilities beyond even those of Ryu Hyabusa. There is quite a bit of speculation on his connection to the original lead though. There will likely be some sort of twist with that. For now we will have to wait and see what impact this has on the storyline of Ninja Gaiden.
The Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z Release Date
This game is going to be out on the 28th of February of 2014 on PC, 360 and PS3. Multiplatform seems to be the way to go for many developers now that a few core console games have an ever-tightening death grip on those players. Hopefully this game will not just be a cash grab and will add something big to the genre.
