Square Enix is turning to crowdfunding for World War Machine, their newest RPG project. The early pictures from Square Enix and Tuque Games look promising so let’s explore a bit further.
The Base of a World War Machine
At base it’s a third-person shooter which is heavy on the square brand of RPG elements. What does this mean? A lot of bright explosions and backgrounds that mix fantasy with gritty industry. Basically a lot of what you saw in the FF7 universe.
The World War Machine Gameplay
This game does look like it is going to shine in this area. You have a huge number of options for customizing your robotic avenger as you fight massive war machines. You not only have specific weapons but also RPG style stats that let you play a massive juggernaut or incredibly fast robotic assassin.
What World War Machine Says About Big Companies
For a while now some of the bigger gaming companies have already been using crowdfunding. They’ve just been doing it under the guise of smaller branches. However this game and a few others are showing that companies like Square Enix are no longer shy about crowdfunding dollars.
It makes sense because no one so far seems the least bit bothered that they are using it. We suppose there isn’t much reason to as long as we don’t have concrete evidence that this hurts indie developers. It is interesting to note at least.
From the Feedback Platform
What is perhaps even more interesting is the lengths to which companies will go for crowdfunding support. They have actually released a feedback platform so that people can look at future projects. This particular one is a result of previous efforts in that area. At the very least it looks like this trend will cause companies to listen more carefully.
Getting Involved with World War Machine
Right now you can visit their Indiegogo page and decide whether it is worth your money. With this particular project they’re giving merchandise, copies of the game and a 2 day internship with the development team? That’s a bit odd but you should draw your own conclusions as usual.
