World of Warcraft delivers a fate worse than death -

The Guardian has reported that Chinese prisons are even more horrifying than we ever thought due to World of Warcraft.

Prisoners were forced to play World of Warcraft to farm gold for the prison wardens. As anyone knows, WoW farming for an indefinite period is an awful and inhumane punishment.

One such worker was Liu Dali was one such worker forced to grind for hours upon hours. “”Prison bosses made more money forcing inmates to play games than they do forcing people to do manual labour,” said Liu about his incarceration. The wardens could make between 5,000-6,000 rmb in one day. This is equal to between $400-600 in standard North American and European currency.

World of Warcraft is supposed to be fun, and the grind is often an escape for people in their everyday lives, with many players looking into the DPS rankings of different classes to optimize their output. Instead in this situation players got to go from extremely hard manual labor into an endless grind. It is mental and physical torture on an unbearable level.

Those who do not meet their quota were often brutally beaten in order to raise their quota. This event has some frightening real-world applications. The gold farmer who annoys you in World of Warcraft may actually be doing it on threat of severe beatings. So you may want to think twice the next time you decide to scam a Chinese farmer, unless of course you have no soul. Imagine if you were forced to do this all day, then beaten because you screwed up the raid and got the party wiped out.

Few of us can imagine such a ridiculously horrible fate as having to grind for hours upon hours at WoW, and be forced to do a good job at it too. Whilst we all want to get WoW Classic Gold, we want to get it from decent sources, not from these circumstances. This is too much to ask of a human being. All our hearts go out to our fellow human beings in China, of whom up to 100,000 may have to endure the gold farming industry.
