After Un-Go I still wanted to know more, but unlike most shows it was more from the beginning rather than the end. Luckily, Inga-ron was released that helped to explain what happened before the Un-Go series. This piece is for people who have already seen Un-Go and will contain spoilers.
The movie shows the past of Shinjuurou Yuuki. The movie goes back and forth between the beginning and the most recent part, but I am going to talk about what goes on in order. Shinjuurou was trying to make a difference and after finding out that he wasn’t the best swimmer he wanted to find something else to do with his time. After watching a movie he decided to show movies to children in a war torn area. While he was doing that he met up with a group calling Singing on the Battlefield. One of the group’s members was someone Shinjuurou knew from back when he was swimming. While traveling with Singing on the Battlefield their van goes under fire by natives and wrecks. Shinjuurou dies and is saved by Inga. I am not going into what happens after that. Too many spoilers. In more recent times when Shinjuurou returns to Japan with Inga he finds out that one of the group from Singing on the Battlefield is supposed to still be alive, but he knows that person is dead. Shinjuurou tries to find the answer to why that man is still around when he was supposed to be dead.
This movie is just wonderful filling in all the gaps and explaining everything. It gives information on why Inga is usually in a child form, why the government needs to cover up everything, why Shinjuurou is doing all this and even more. I can’t think of any more questions I need answered after watching this.
The only things that I didn’t like so much about this movie was the mystery that he was solving. It was pretty weak compared with some of the mysteries from the show. Also if it was supposed to set the tone for the show it didn’t really work since he didn’t have to figure out anything. He just stuck with the fact he knew Oono was dead and the rest just fell in place around him.
I feel bad for Shinjuurou because while he wants to help people he is forever doomed to have his work not mean anything. It starts from this movie where he tries to make children’s live better, but the movies don’t work out. Then he helps out the Singing on the Battlefield group and even helps them get away from an exploding car, but Inga ruins that. Then he is a detective trying to help people discover the truth, but it is always covered up. No matter what he does it is always doomed.
No one looks as sexy with a guitar neck sticking out of them as Yuuko does.
If you have seen Un-Go you should definitely watch Inga-ron to get the complete picture for the series. It helps to explain a lot and will give you a different perspective on some things from series. If you haven’t watched Un-Go, but are reading this anyway then I still think that this movie should be watched after the show. The show is most charming when you don’t know exactly what is going on.
