Capcom has released some Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 trailers for the much-loved Frank West and the barely known Rocket Raccoon. It appears that Frank is not simply just a re-skin of his character from Tatsunoko vs Capcom, which is excellent.
Frank West appears to be a summoning character in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, just like TvC. However his supers are quite different, including one with a bottle that appears to have invulnerability frames. He appears to be a much more combo-oriented, rushdown style of character than in Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
Another important note, he now has different animations where he uses more weapons. This means that he will likely have much better ways to initiate his combos in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. He also seems to be less of a grapple heavy character, as one of his grapple supers is missing entirely.
It’s quite good to see such an interesting change to a character we thought would be a reskin. It is odd that in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 where flash is everything, Frank’s flashiest super from TvC was changed and made quite a bit more mundane. His Servbot head grab just doesn’t have the same kick it did. On the upside he appears to have a quite efficient camera flash move that can momentarily stun zoners.
The next character is Rocket Raccoon. He appears to be a zoning character with several summons in the form of traps. While he looks quite good at zoning and well able to control the map, we can assume he won’t have great health since he is a small character. Other than that he seems to be quite impressive, as he can control any section of the area around him in the way he pleases.
But more importantly, he has an awesome voice and appears to have an ultimate that is an easy OTG. From what we have seen thus far, there will be a lot more OTG moves in this version than in the previous one (not to say the first version didn’t have a ton).
And Rocket Raccoon has a great voice and some hilarious animations, including where he grabs onto a ladder to escape the air strike. It’s just all so in character for him, the only thing that is missing is his buddy Groot.
