TyranoBuilder Release Overview

A new sort of program is out from NYU Media. Now instead of being a classic Doujin game it’s software for creating visual novels. It allows you to create both graphic and sound versions of these games.

TyranoBuilder in a Nutshell

With an easy-to-use GUI and a framework well optimized both for PC and Macintosh this is the best visual novel creator we have seen thus far.

A Visual Novel Framework

When we first started using the program we thought it had everything included in the core package. Interestingly the way it actually works is quite different. Instead of core assets you upload characters, music and backgrounds to create your game.

TyranoBuilder Music Input

Some base assets are available on their main site but for the most part you need to find or create your own. This should work just find for aspiring artists but keep this in mind if you expect to make your novel without any work on your part.

TyranoBuilder Optimization

When it comes to software efficiency is what matters.  Does it work as intended, efficiently and easily? Definitely. Can you easily make an interesting manga with it? Certainly. So far we’ve had no trouble with it. The system also includes export systems for actually publishing your game as well.

TryanoBuilder for Aspiring Developers

This isn’t for someone looking for a fun game to play. It is however for any aspiring VN maker who does not want to do a thousand or more lines of coding. We’ve seen this happen with many aspects of the industry. If you’ve ever wanted to try out VN development this is your best choice.

The TyranoBuilder Steam Release

You can check it out on Steam right here. It is $12.47 right now during the launch event. I could be a good choice for someone wanting to get started in the visual novel field.

Recent Updates to TyranoBuilder

Live2D allows you to add full animation to your visual novels. This really improves upon what you could do previously with the system. There is also a laundry list of other features including:

  • An online asset library for you to freely use, with additional storage
  • Multiple new options for resizing and mirroring character art
  • New options for scenario file manipulation
  • Various UI improvements including branch button resizes
  • A new “complete before proceeding” checklist
  • New project skipping options
  • Improved localization and overall improvements
