Tripwire Interactive has launched the Tripwire Interactive Ladder, or TWIL. This is a new site for clans to organize and compete around. The main focus so far is for Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad.
How the Tripwire Interactive Ladder works
You simply sign up on their forums at http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/. When you sign on there, you can also sing in to the Tripwire Interactive Ladder. From there you can create teams, join ladders and enter tournaments. The main draw is that it lets you set up your own leagues and tournaments.
The Future of the Tripwire Interactive Ladder
In the future they hope to add Rising Storm, and we can assume other games later on. More importantly they will be having sponsored tournaments. These sponsored tournaments will have real money prizes.
Why did they start the TWI Ladder?
While this is not concrete, we want to give an informed guess. Companies today need a gimmick of some sort. Valve did it with Steam and look where that went. Mojang has Minecon among other things. Other companies have huge sponsors such as Atlus or Capcom. IGN sponsors or otherwise helps many indie developers to give them the push they need. So what does all this add up to? You need some sort of gimmick to stay afloat and thrive. This is a smart move that the Tripwire Interactive staff is trying. Why go to MLG and spend a bunch of money when you can do it in-house? We are eager to see how this all plays out.
Visit them yourself
But you do not have to take our word for it. Visit the Tripwire Interactive Ladder yourself from the preceding link. For the few who do not know, you can get Red Orchestra 2 on Steam. Will this be the start of more companies starting in-house leagues? We will be watching and reporting on it for you later.
