Fans of the series may realize that Torchlight 2 was supposed to come out recently. They unfortunately will not be releasing the game this year.
In a post on Torchlight 2 here the Runic team mentioned that they are spending more time “getting a game of this scope up to the quality and polish”.
However they did release some more information on what is coming up:
- Enchanting is completely different. You will be able to find enchanters in towns or in the wild. They will give you various unique enchantments. The stronger enchanters will only enchant an item or a limited number of them.
- Gems are much more random now. You can have the same type of gem with some very different stats than other gems. Basically the gem layout is designed to encourage you to use your gems instead of hoarding them. This was a problem in many games of this type. Hopefully this will solve the problem.
- There have been some rumors about private servers run by the players. However nothing has been confirmed.
- There will be quite a few more types of pets than in the previous games.
- There are a variety of new summons. They will have more useful abilities than in previous games.
- Tons of new enemies in a much larger world. Overall the scale is greatly improved from the previous game.
Unfortunately the beta testing is not planned for the general public. They have described the test as a “friends and family” test. This means that if you are a member of the general public you won’t be getting in.
