Tokyo Ghoul starts with a girl delightedly eating a person. She is caught by someone trying to stop her from binge eating. She gets away. After that the story shows the main character Ken discussing having a date at a bookstore, but Ken’s friend does not think that he can get the girl after seeing her. Ken soon finds out the girl has the same taste in books as him and gets his bookstore date after all. Unfortunately at the end of the date the girl turns out to be a ghoul that they showed at the beginning and she tries to kill him. Before Ken dies the girl is crushed and at the hospital they use her organs to give him a transplant. Over time Ken realizes what happened and that he is now a ghoul himself. Ken can not reconcile himself to eating flesh and is forced to at the end of the show.
Tokyo Ghoul does a pretty good job showing Ken deal with his realization that he is now a ghoul. The scenes where he tries all the food and checks to see if he can be stabbed with a knife show him desperately hoping that what he believes is not true. Even after he knows that he must be a ghoul, Ken does not give in to his desire for flesh. When he is starving and flesh is in his face he will not eat it. Because while he is a ghoul he still has human beliefs about eating people. To the end until forced he will not accept his new life.
Tokyo Ghoul also shows some background on the ghouls. They appear to have a hierarchy and territory in which they hunt people. It will be interesting to see what else is going on in the world of ghouls.
Overall this episode of Tokyo Ghoul just feels like an introduction and the story should change from here. So while so far it seems interesting it could take a turn for the worst. I plan on watching to see where this goes.
