Sword Art Online episode 24 contains the final battle between Sugou and Kirito.
Kirito hears that people minds are being controlled, but he gets more upset that Oberon lied about a city in the sky.
The final battle does not make a lot of sense. Out of nowhere Kirito has the knowledge of the codes he needs to turn the tables on Oberon. Oberon did not even try to put up a fight after the codes went against him. He just started shrieking like a little girl. All that show of being a big mean bad guy and then he goes out in a humiliating way. It was really anticlimactic.
Sword Art Online spent so much time talking about the people besides Asuna that were being held hostage, but when the end comes they are all forgotten. When the fight was over, I thought that the other people being held hostage would come up. Asuna had been so disturbed, so she would lead Kirito to get them all free. No Asuna logs out and then Kirito leaves. Nothing is said about all the other people being held there. Why even bring them all up so much if they are not important in the end?
Episode 24 would have been a good place to end this. Kirito show up at the hospital and sees Asuna for the first time awake in the real world. This could not end it with Asuna coming back and make some sense, so there is another episode for no reason. Maybe it will be so important that I will take my statement back, but I really doubt it. For now this feels like the real ending for Alfheim Online, but just like they did not end the whole series with Kirito waking up in the hospital they will not end this properly either.
It seems like they went to all that trouble making Oberon look bad at the end, so that Kirito would not seem awful for cutting him to pieces.
