Sword Art Online episode 17 reveals that Sugou is not just a real life villain, but the man who kept the 300 people from returning to their bodies after Sword Art Online ended. He intends to use those people to test the ability of the Nervegear technology to change people’s memories and emotions.
The first part of Sword Art Online episode 17, is about Kirito learning how to fly without a controller, finding out more about the World Tree and making a party with Lyfa. Kirito learns to fly without a controller very quickly despite Lyfa using the worst method ever to help. Pushing someone to make them go for things like that will get them moving, but as was seen in the show it generally leads to a horrible crash at the end. I was taught to ride a bike in the same way Kirito learned about flying and it ended in a similar fashion. Hopefully he will at least struggle with landing for a while longer because Kirito being perfect all the time is boring.
It was good to know he has not lost his ability to seduce a girl anytime, anywhere, while doing anything since he got Lyfa to ignore everyone she knows after one encounter. It must have helped though that it was his sister who already wants him, so at least it made some sense this time.
Good to see that Sugou likes messing with Asuna’s unresisting body just as much in game as he does when she is in a coma.
Asuna does not have a lot in common with Titania from A Midsummer’s Night Dream at this point. Titania was able to hold her own with Oberon before she was controlled by Puck. Asuna on the other hand is already at Sugou’s mercy since he is holding her body and mind hostage. I wonder if they will change her feelings for Kirito to go along with the Titania theme. Asuna combating the control over her mind to remember her feelings for Kirito would be a pretty lame way to end. It has been done a lot of times in the past.
The way Kirito is handling the information about Asuna being trapped in the game again is pretty strange. For one thing, how have only Kirito and Agil realized that the captured minds from Sword Art Online are in Alfheim Online. Why is Kirito not talking to the police about the fact that those people are now in a new game? Why is he trying to do it all alone? Especially since Kirito did what was required last time and Asuna was still in game afterwards. Why would he think that if he just gets her this time that she will be free? Kirito should be more skeptical of working from within the game this time, but as usual he has learned nothing.
