Sword Art Online episode 13 shows the end of Kirito and Asuna’s honeymoon and rejoining the front lines. A new boss was being scouted when a group got trapped inside and disappeared. So everyone is being gathered together to fight the new unknown menace.
The first part of Sword Art Online episode 13 looks like filler. Unless the old man they fished with turns out to be important later, there was no point. It would have been better to cut that out and focus more time on the boss fight. The show keeps focusing on Asuna fighting people right now. First the guys from the army and now the giant fish. We already know that Asuna is powerful. They do no have to keep showing us.
Finally they have brought up something about what is happening to the Sword Art Online players’ bodies in the real world. I do not know why they left out that people were disconnecting all over the place near the beginning, when they were being taken to hospitals. If the nerve gear is able to be unplugged though, shouldn’t they be able to take it off while it is unplugged? It was very nice that they acknowledged that people had to do things with their lifeless bodies and that they can not go on like this forever. I mean some of these people should have poor families or no relatives. Is the government going to keep them hooked up even if they can not afford it? When they get out are they going to have to pay for the expense? Well I hope that in the future we get more of an idea about what has happened with all the bodies.
When Kirito hears about what Heathcliff wants to send them into, he tries to get Asuna to stay behind. Hopefully her reaction has taught him that he can not protect her from everything or keep her sheltered. He has to let her be free, or she will resent him holding her back. Asuna would not like him going into danger either, but she knows that he has to do it. This is a first with the many girls that have gone after Kirito though. Usually they will let him protect them and just stand back. Kirito has not had a girl would would stand up to him like Asuna or fight as well as her. Hopefully in the future he will treat her more like a partner and less like a liability.
