In Sword Art Online episode 12, we finally find out what Yui really is when Kirito and Asuna go to help out the leader of the army.
Kirito’s streak of never learning his lesson in Sword Art Online continues. Once again he goes with some lower level people into a high level area and it ends in tragedy. How many people have to die before he stops doing this? Does he forget his past experience with this right after the mission is over? He goes with a lower level member of the army and Yui who appears to be a non combatant. Surprise, a high level monster that is too high for Kirito and Asuna shows up. They would have died if Yui did not have magical GM powers.
Yui sacrifices herself to save Kirito and Asuna. The monster was not really active. I am confused why they could not all have gone into shelter and used crystals out of the area. Also Asuna and Kirito did not even know Yui that long, so the comment about Asuna not being able to smile without her was pretty overdramatic.
The situation in the Town of Beginnings is fleshed out further, but I do not see how saving Thinker is going to help. If the guild has been listening to Kibaou, then he could just take his followers and start his own guild if they kick him out. I hope that the army takes responsibility for the monster that they have unleashed by allowing Kibaou to get some power with his twisted ideas. If they could not handle their large guild then they should have stopped expanding.
Yui’s function in Sword Art Online not being allowed just adds onto how messed up the creator appears. I doubt it is coincidence that she was not allowed to go out into his big experiment. He knew that Yui would be needed, but he decided to just see how things would play out without her. Pointless deaths due to despair and insanity.
Time and again Sword Art Online shows some big sacrifice only to render it pointless a minute later. Just like Kirito they never learn. Yui gets deleted and then immediately after for no reason, Kirito is able to save her information. So there was no point in getting all upset. How anticlimatic. No one is going to believe it if they ever put a genuine sacrifice in this series because they have had so many fakes.
