After our review of Space Pirates and Zombies, we thought that we’d go over some of our favorite Steam Sale games. We were quite surprised by some of the excellent games we found.
While there are also big name games on Steam sale such as Serious Sam 3, Magicka and Deus Ex, those don’t really need a mention as they will sell under their own force.
Others, like Bastion, were excellent but have already seen massive success and had significant funding. If you don’t see a big name title or even big indie game mentioned, this is why.
Universe Sandbox– While not a mind-blowing space odyssey it has the most important element in any game: fun. I mean, what nerd hasn’t wanted to toss around stellar entities at some point?
Hoard– Hoard really shines in it’s multiplayer aspect. There is a whole world working around and against you in each match. And with 4 people? You can’t really ask for much more fun in multiplayer from the Steam sale.
Orcs Must Die!– A tower defense that puts a larger emphasis on the player than normal. It is extremely well polished for it’s genre.
Dungeons of Dredmor– If you like indie games and roguelikes this game is for you. It stands out because of the sheer amount of content, which is massive.
Defense Grid: The Awakening– Another tower defense with an impressive story and great voice acting.
Swords and Soldiers HD- A tower versus game with extremely addictive gameplay. The art style is also quite amusing.
Greed Corp– A very good hex-based strategy game. If you are a fan of old school games like this, be sure to check it out.
Atom Zombie Smasher– A simplistic RTS, but with a zombie and civilian twist. Easy to get in to, hard to master.
Rock of Ages– A really great racing/strategy game. There really isn’t anything like it out there.
Solar 2– We were extremely surprised to find this decent game. It has basically the same concept as Katamari Damacy, only in 2d with some twists.
There are other great games in the Steam sale, but these are the unsung heroes. We hope to do another similar list for the next Steam sale, so stay with us.
