TF2 is having a special robotic event and the normal holiday pack. The DOTA 2 crowd gets a special Greevling event. Valve often has events like this around the time of their sale, but it’s fun to see them.
Steam Holiday Sale 2012 Gamestop tie-in
Steam is also having a GameStop tie-in. You get more trade in credit if you trade things in for Steam gift cards. We’re not sure why GameStop is so gung-ho to do this but here we are. We suppose they have decided to take a chunk of the market instead of getting stomped.

As usual all you have to do right now is check out the main steam site. They are also pushing their mobile client and one of their achievement requirements asks you to visit on a mobile device. You can get on a mobile emulator to do so if you do not have a smart phone.
