Steam Greenlight was going to shake up the game. Everyone knew this. But we weren’t sure big companies would be in on it this early. Reverb Publishing is one of what will soon be many larger promoters to take up a game. Edge of Space is a 2d space and mining game. However this article is about how it is being promoted.
Steam Greenlight, Edge of Space, Reverb and saving Kittens
What is so unique about it is that they are donating $5,000 USD to the Humane Society if their game gets the go on Steam Greenlight. This means that people are going to start offering big promotions. Huge promotions in some cases, for their games.
How this will shake up Steam Greenlight and the negatives
This is going to cause changes for Steam Greenlight, for better and worse. For the worse, it will never become something for the tiny developer. They have Indiegogo for that though. It also means that industry heavyweights are stepping in to promote certain games. So as you can see, Steam Greenlight is going to be mainstream. This will of course, crowd some developers out of the area. On the other hand, you can always drum up enough funding to get your game on Steam normally.
The positive changes to Steam Greenlight
The positive aspect is that some mid-tier developers will get in. They will have a decent fanbase that can help them. Well will also see a lot more new indie games crowding in with the AAA titles. This is a good thing, as because anyone knows many AAA titles are far from actually being playable.
How do you feel about Steam Greenlight?
Let us know how you feel about these changes coming to the system. We think that you have to take the good with the bad, personally. We’d also like to hear from you if you are a developer who is being affected by this. As usual, if Edge of Space interests you, be sure to check out their page as well.
