Steam has long been a beloved platform for gamers. However with the advent of the “Steam Big Picture” and the “Steam Box” that gaming is now on your smart TV as well. Steam Box and Convenience
One major appeal of this new hardware is the fluid switches between television and gaming. With the press of a few buttons you can switch between your Cable TV and Gaming platforms. Even while playing you can connect with friends or watch game videos. All of this can happen for multiple televisions in your home on one box. The grand vision of Gabe Newell is to have a sever for all the televisions in your house.
Trouble in Steam Box Paradise
Jeri Ellsworth and other employees working on Android projects were let go recently. Valve of course said this will not bother progress in the least. However it seems highly likely that they are simply blowing smoke about this. No matter what this seems like it would be a setback. Another problem is that Valve is keeping the Steam Box highly shrouded in mystery.
Steam Box and the Mainstream
Valve already proved they could bring their platform to your TV with “Big Picture.” Now they are competing in the console market. This new device promises to compete with other traditional consoles. This means that Xbox, PS3 and Wii now have a new foe.
Multiple TV Functionality
“The Steam Box will be a server” said Valve co-founder Gabe Newell in an interview with The Verge. This means that multiple people can play off of one box. If you have two televisions, that is like having two consoles as well. No other current console does something like this.
Still in Production
