StarDrive is nearing release soon so we wanted to go over the game a bit more. This space sim uses 2D sprites instead of 3D art for many of the ships.
What Sets StarDrive Apart
While 2D is interesting the gaming arena today is clogged with space simulations. This may turn you off from StarDrive initially. Indeed not all of the gameplay in this game is fully original. However let us take a look at a few selling points that are good regardless:
- The ability to design your own alien races
- “Arcade” control lets you directly control units
- Ships are fully modular and customizable
- Fleets and formations are also fully customizable
- You can deploy drop troops from orbit to defeat defenses
- Significant numbers of random events
So some of these have been done before such as random events but you cannot really fault them for having something like that in. The additions, in our opinions, are worth looking at the game for. The artwork is the major selling point and it is quite polished. The ships in StarDrive all look very nice along with the interface and races.
Too Good to be True
If you really love the genre then it is worth checking out. If this type of game is not your cup of tea then you already know enough to decide for yourself. It also does not use the same 3D graphics in similar games. For some of you this will be a minus and others a plus.
Buying StarDrive
The beta will be ending on April 26th and will feature a 10% discount. The beta version retails right now for $24.99 which is a 17% discount. The game should be rather affordable whenever you buy it. That also makes it a useful pick for those who are a bit hard-pressed for cash. As usual the easiest place to get it is on Steam.
