Starbound – New Publishers and More

Starbound has had some seriously big things happening here. In this article we will be discussing some of the new reveals on physics, and a new publishing deal which is coming up.

Starbound Wanderlust: Rebirth

The Big Starbound publishing deal with Yeti Trunk

The Starbound team has often been asked about how they can get funding. We found this a bit puzzling, considering the connections which they garnered due to Terraria. However for those still wondering, they will be teaming with Yeti Trunk. Yeti Trunk is another group of developers. They did an RPG called Wanderlust: Rebirth.

Starbound and Water

This game wouldn’t be much of a game without water. However they are trying to do some really impressive things with these physics. We are seeing advanced options such as water physics, which will no doubt be very useful in buildings. Of course there is also the flow of water, but you would probably expect that to be a given in games of this type. We are obviously most excited about the options with water pressure. This could lead to some very fun and impressive maps made by the players. We are thinking shades of the old Minecraft water-slide maps.

Cameos in Starbound

Perhaps the most interesting part of all this is a teaser about cameos. There are going to be several cameos so far from other indie games, including:

  • Creepers from Minecraft
  • Monsters from Braid
  • Fluros from Vessel
  • Possibly Diggles from Dredmore

These came from a recent Twitter post about them. We figured that their significant connections from their previous games would garner them something like this. It is not so surprising in hindsight. It is strange to see such a tight-knit community growing between certain parts of gaming. It seems like a neutral development.  It could bring both good and bad things depending on how it is handled. This one seems fairly benign.

Starbound itself

So far we have only seen some of Starbound, but it is looking good. To be honest it looks like it is going to be a sort of Terraria+. For those who really enjoyed that game you should enjoy this one as well. Be sure to check out their official site.

Not quite, we haven’t merged our team with Yeti Trunk. Rather, they contacted us and wanted to help us out. So they’ve very generously agreed to have us distribute their game. Our dev teams (at least at this time) will remain seperate. And at this time we have no plans to merge them. 🙂 Excellent article otherwise, thanks for covering us.

Sorry about that. One of our writers gave me some bad info. They told me it was going to be an actual merger later. Apologies and we’ll correct it.
