It is time to boldly go where we’ve gone before. Many times. That is right, we are getting another Star Trek game. This particular one is set on the 2009 reboot. This is a really strange thing to do because most fans want the original. Will it work for this game? Well that remains to be seen. At least they have a Vulcan Death Grip in this particular game. There is no confirmation of Kirk-Fu yet, but we hope to have a confirmation on that later.
The new Star Trek game itself
The game itself appears to be a third person shooter. The graphics are nice, reminiscent of Mass Effect. You can expect all the various explosions and jumps a game of this type has. We wouldn’t normally give a game like this a thought but Namco Bandai is making it. It will also be fully co-op. Hopefully we will see some decent platforming sections. Really though, the gameplay will make or break this particular game. Nostalgia cannot carry the game by itself.
More about the new Star Trek game
This game is set for a multi-platform release. This also leaves us a bit skeptical. As everyone knows, many games like this have poor translations between platforms. The game itself is set for a 2013 release. This is complicated by the fact that many titles in the past have been less than great. They basically carried themselves on the nostalgia of fans. This one won’t be able to ride on nostalgia since it is based on the reboot. We hope that this one will be the one to break the cycle of bad Star Trek games. If they at least put in a Kirk-Fu mode where you can melee everything, then we will be alright. Hopefully it will not just be a continuation of the tragedy.
