Samurai Flamenco started out pretty slow with Hazama constantly getting beaten by his opponents and generally not actually causing a difference. There was a major turnaround in this show when Hazama started to get noticed and more people interested in being heroes were added to the show.
Samurai Flamenco first added Kaname who made Hazama finally step up and become a real hero. The competition to keep the Samurai Flamenco name showed Hazama that he needed to learn how to fight at last. While he had a for how he wanted to approach justice Hazama could not back it up since he had no fighting skills. Kaname was the right person to show him the way since he had been Red Axe and Hazama admired him. Kaname also shows the more desperate side of show business that Hazama and Maya do not portray. Kaname is struggling to stay in the public eye, which puts Hazama in the back seat quite often which is amusing.
Maya added more conflict to the show. She was working for good to save people, but was she really doing good when she was using excessive force and scaring the victims as much as the crime itself. She also had Hazama under her thumb, so that he could not do what he needed to do for justice. Coming up against Maya helped Hazama see that he needed to take a stand for himself and that he needed to serve justice his own way. He was able to decide that no matter what he would not just go along with something wrong to hide his identity.
The relationship between Hazama and Goto appears to be a main focus of the show, but that is the worst part of the show. Goto as of this point is pretty pointless except for helping Hazama to figure out what he wants to do. Most of Goto’s screen time is about boring talks and no action. Seeing the way the police are handling the situation with the vigilantes and just giving lipservice to the citizens is interesting. That does not require a main character involved with the police. Unless something changes drastically with the way Goto is handled he is a throwaway character in this series which is a shame since he is a focus of the show. The supporting cast is doing way more for this show than Goto.
The growth of Hazama and the show because of Maya and Kaname is amazing. I was not expecting this kind of turnaround back when I did the first impressions. Samurai Flamenco has become the kind of show I imagined when I saw the promos and artwork. It appears that it will get even better with addition of even more Flamenco Girls and Hazama separating from Maya. Hopefully the show will not be bogged down with Goto in the future, so that it can be as good as possible.
The dinging noise does not seem very appropriate for the action, but it lightens up the moment.
