Rice Digital - A new portal for Doujin Games - Nerd Age

Rice Digital has launched recently. We will be going over the site and what it brings to the market.

What is Rice Digital?

Basically it is a site to sell Doujin games. They also have sections to discuss the games on as well. They offer quick downloads of the games from the site. They are more like a traditional download site. The site is much less like one of the popular programs such as Steam.

We saw some very familiar names in their lineup. Many of them are from the folks at Nyu Media. These include:

• The Cherry Tree High Comedy Club, an interesting take on the dating sim style of game.
• Ether Vapor Remaster, a very innovative and enjoyable shmup.
• Fairy Bloom Freesia, a side-scrolling beat-em-up with a quirky sense of humor.

Indie games are incredibly popular. This fact is starting a new trend. Doujin games were relatively unknown except to a few of the more Japan-centric gamers. Now we are seeing them translated in increasing numbers. This is a trend to keep an eye on. We will likely see many more games like this and more sites coming up.

Where does the Doujin game scene go from here?

Getting games like the Touhou series will be tough. This is due to some remarkable creators who want control over their property. However at the same time this trend is good for the industry. Having these games come over will provide more competition. More competition will push local designers to make better games. This can only mean good things for everyone.
